WRITING TASK: INDISCIPLINE

Upon completion of your course, you are posted to an interior school which poses some challenges to you. Among the problems that you face are:

·                     low English proficiency among the children

·                     most of the school children are absent on Mondays

·                     some parents do not bother about their children's achievements in school

As an English teacher, what would you do to improve the prevailing situation? Your write-up should not be less than 300 words. Give a suitable title to your post.

Responsibility of Teacher

As an English teacher in interior school, we must be strong to face a lot of problems there. Interior school is really different from school in the city. Either the facilities or condition of students, they are totally different.

            The most common problem in interior school is low proficiency among the children. It is because, children in rural area do not expose to the usage of English language. So, to improve this problem we must expose the children with English materials. Children like to read books with pictures, so we can give them that type of book in English language. The other way is by asked them to watch English cartoons. Children really like comics and cartoons, so these kinds of activities will attract them to learn English.

            Secondly, most of the school children are absent on Mondays. How to deal with this problem? Teacher must think of fun and interesting activity on Mondays. Thus, they excited to come to school on Mondays. For examples, in the first period on Mondays there are some games provide by teacher. No wonder indoor or outdoor games, as long as it gives fun and can attract children to come to school on Mondays.

The worst problem in interior school is some parents do not bother about their children's achievements in school. Mentality of peoples in rural area is, it is enough for their children to know how to write and read. Not more than that. So, as a teacher we must change this mentality. We must convince them that it is not enough for their children to only know how to read and write. It is because, there will be much more challenges in the future. Their children cannot compete with other person. So, they will left behind and being slave in their own country.

As a conclusion, every teacher in interior school must prepare themselves to face any problems in school. A good teacher will brings success to students, school, and country.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry wants to put more counsellors in secondary schools to curb discipline problems among students, said its deputy minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.

He said the ministry hoped to reduce the current student-counsellor ratio of 1:500 to 1:300.

“We need an increase of about 40% counsellors from the current 7,000 counsellors posted at schools,” he said after launching the Mid-Autumn Street Party in front of Sungei Wang Plaza last night.

Dr Wee, who is also the MCA Youth chief, said it was only a mere 2% of secondary students with disciplinary problems and most were repeat offenders.

“Education is not only about teaching and knowledge. It is also to mould a student’s well-being. Some first time offenders have benefitted from counselling and no longer play truant or cause problems at school,” he said.

He added that enforcement such as suspension, warnings and expulsion should only be used as a last resort.

“We are not a prison, but an institution. We need to educate the students,” he said, adding the ministry was working with Persatuan Kaunseling Malaysia to train more counsellors.

3. Discipline problems in secondary school are not really serious because it was only 2% of students with disciplinary problems and most were repeat offenders.
4. Education is not only about teaching and knowledge, but it is also to mould a student’s well-being.

Analysis on the Video Clip

After watching the oprah winfrey video, there are some scene that I found inspired me. the first scene was which the men told to audiences about their past about sexual harassment. It was touched my heart because i never believed that men also had been sexual harassment. i thought only women had experience like that. it inspired me to be more be careful and learn some martial arts like kungfu, magic, training with dragon and etc.

the second part was a woman taking care her own child which lost her hands and legs. it is very inspired me so that whatever we do, our physical problem does not prevent us to do what we want in our life.

the quote that i like the most is live your life own your own heart. it means that if we feel happy and enjoy doing something, just do it.
